lunch with cousins

My mom's family is from Can Tho, and whenever we go back, we stop by the cousins' house for one meal or many. Because Can Tho is in the Mekong Delta, it's a pretty sure bet that there will be at least one whole fried fish at some point during the eating. It's almost equally certain that the fish was pulled out of the adjacent river sometime earlier that day, freshly fried for lunch.
