Oxido is not the most inspired of lunch spots, and by that I mean it's a solid choice for fast casual Mexican in the form of burrito, rice bowl or tacos, but not anything pow wow write home about it. In the interest of full disclosure, I also have to say that we've never tried anything but the rice bowls. Which we like. We do like them. Oh and the orange Fanta was reaaaally good today. Ever since I had the most amazing orange Fanta straight from the soda fountain at Mighty Quinn's last summer, I've been addicted to finding it again. Oxido comes pretty close.

One minute poké is a casual Hawaiian classic, found all over the islands, the next minute it's the new it thing, the dish on everyone's tongue. If you don't know it, you will soon. At it's mostly basic, it's chunks of tuna marinated in soy and sesame. But everyone has their own interpretation so we stopped by the newly opened Wisefish Poke in Chelsea to try theirs. M. had the classic tuna while I went with salmon. The space itself is charming, bare and extremely loud. Even when the group of 10 next to us left, sounds rebounded against the hard surfaces in close to deafening levels. The bowls themselves are alright. Not worth the long walk, but decent enough if you're in the neighborhood. Despite the fresh ingredients, they're missing some kind of something something.

I can think of no worse hell than braving the crowded lunch hour at Madison Square Eats on a stifling hot in the sun day. But we did anyway, stopping at the least crowded food stand, The Cannibal. Sometimes, when we can't decide what to eat, we ask what they recommend or what's popular. Without hesitation the guy said the Pigs Head Cuban. And wow was he right. We copped a squat underneath the shade of the trees in the park and enjoyed a thoroughly good pressed sandwich. Love when a recommendation hits the spot. Makes it almost worth the hell we endured to get there.

Luke's Lobster

We're back! And what better way to celebrate than with lobster rolls from the new Nomad location of Luke's Lobster. We thought it would be packed, what with the strange summer weather we're having today, a full three days away from Memorial Day weekend, but it wasn't. The best part of the lobster rolls at Luke's is the proper buttering and grilling of their buns. Yum and yummier. Very little seating but I imagine it's best for take out to be eaten in the park on a hot summer day.
