Kaffee am Meer

RIMG0356
Our timing is a bit off for lunch so posting this week might be a bit random and sporadic. As in this late afternoon snack in the Kreuzberg neighborhood of Berlin at a cafe called the Kaffee Am Meer. We didn't recognize too much on the menu except brot (bread) and butter (butter) so that's what we ordered and out came these 3 slices of German dark bread covered in a delectable thick layer of butter. Perfect with an afternoon kaffee (coffee).

If you're in Berlin, don't miss caffe&gelato (potsdamer platz arkaden) and, for a quick healthy meal, Va Piano :

There's something about the butter in Europe and especially Germany. One of the most memorable meals of my life was at a train station in Mannheim. It was a simple soft pretzel cut in half length-wise and spread with butter.

I can still taste it, and it has been close to 20 years.

Congratulations on your trip, Lunch Ladies, and keep the euro-food photos coming!
