Pinche Taqueria

07-15 Pinche Tacqueria
Pretty impossible, after reading Nicky's report on street eating in Mexico City, not to crave a taco al pastor for lunch. And not just any taco al pastor, but one that would give us a close simulacrum of Nicky's experience. We tried the Pinche Taqueria above Houston but the line was out the door so we went to the smaller, less crowded Mott Street location. In the process we concluded that the taco de pescado may be superior at Mott. Today it was particularly good, really really good, and it seemed that the last several times we had the fish tacos, the good ones were always at Mott. It's a rather inconclusive conclusion but we'll be keeping tabs on this particular theory.

I'm going on vacation to NYC with my mother next month... I definitely want to visit this place!

I went a couple weeks ago. I didn't get the fish tacos, but the other tacos were just ok.

The "guacamole" was too sad. Yes, that is guacamole and not salsa verde on those tacos.

TT- In Mexico they have something called salsa de aguacate hwich is a condiment made out of salsa and avocado, and is not "guacamole" at all. But then you'd actually ahve to know something about Mexican food to know that.

@Anonymous- then check out the Pinche website and tell me why they say the taco has guacamole on top.

Maybe the owner thought that salsa de aguacate would sound to foreign and went with guacamole since it's similar and something basically everyone knows?

@TT and @Anonymous, I shot an email over to Pinche to clarify as I could definitely see someone deciding to use guacamole instead of salsa de aguacate but no response.

The Mott St location does seem to be a little better than the Lafayette one, for whatever reason.
