Sarge's Deli, with Alice and J.

06-05 Sarge's Deli
We had a photoshoot with Alice conveniently scheduled around lunch time and even more interestingly, a couple blocks away from the classic Jewish deli, Sarge's. I haven't tried all them all, but Sarge's pastrami is some of the best I've ever eaten. They cure it themselves, it's sliced super thin and is just enough fatty to make every bite a delicious one. The table filled up quickly with matzoh ball soup, bottomless soda, pickles, cole slaw, french fries and potato salad. We both took home a small container of leftover pastrami and corned beef from our half-sandwiches.
Sarge's Deli, 548 3rd Ave, NY, NY 10016 (btwn 36th and 37th)

Sarge's is not a Jewish deli.

Interesting! I always thought of it as one since they serve matzoh ball soup, pastrami on rye, kugel, knishes - all those staples. Is there a technical definition? It's not a kosher deli but does that make it less Jewish?

The bacon cheeseburger is a good clue. They are a (very good) deli that serves some Jewish / eastern European specialties along with other items.
