4:47pm mastic pie

07-14 mastic pie
When I took a glance at the contents of a recent dessert souvenir from Maggie, I told Y she wouldn't like this.  Call me judgmental, but I just knew; and I was right.  It's precisely the kind of food that our tastes diverge on.  Mastic laced nougat and roasted almonds sandwiched between two communion wafer type discs.  It's really right up my alley, and I can see why Maggie got it for me on her recent trip to Chios, known for their mastic. Ironically, I didn't like it either.  It's probably the mastic, but the nougat just didn't taste how I want it to taste.  I've had mastic soda, mastic toothpaste, and been able to enjoy (not love) the acquired taste like uniqueness.  But in this instance, it will take more work.

So funny. I didn't read this post, and there I was today recommending the desserts with mastic at Pylos to you! Haha. The Pylos desserts are very light on the flavor so it's not too overwhelming. I think you'll like it.

Hi M & Y!
I was psyched to find your post on this mastic (mastiha) wafer! Not so psyched to hear you didn't LOVE it! However, I have a challenge for you - I'd love to host you in my shop on the LES - mastihashop, specializing in all things Chios Mastiha (mastic) - and give you a taste of some of my favorite sweets to see how you like them... What do you say? You game for some sampling? For all those who are also interested, find our website at www.mastihashopny.com...
